Cleveland Students Earn Math Olympiad Awards
Under the direction of the PACE teacher, Andrea Jones, Cleveland
Elementary School fourth and fifth grade students had the opportunity to
participate in Math Olympiad. Students met once a month for five
months; they worked on a total of 25 math problems during that time.
The Math Olympiad competition requires students to solve complex math
problems that involve spatial thinking, logic, multiple-step solutions,
advanced computation, geometry, and pre-algebra. Points are awarded for
each problem solved correctly. Gold medalists have to solve 20-25
problems; silver medalists 15-19 and bronze medalists 10-14.
This year all the Cleveland students who participated earned medals.
The bronze medalist was Nathaniel T. Silver medalists included Ryan J.,
Calvin M. and Abe O. Gold medalists were fourth grader Emilie V. with
19 points and fifth graders Natalie M. with 18 points, Taylor V. with 20
points, Allison S. with 21 points and Elena K. with 23 points.
