The Cleveland Elementary and NEW Montessori schools held their annual Walk-a-Thon on Wednesday, October 6; the 4K class walked on Thursday. This event was once again held in conjunction with "Walk Your Child to School Day". The children walked an 8-block area three times, for a total of 24 blocks.
Cheese snacks were donated by Sargento in Kiel, and bottled water that was donated by 4K parent Mr. Moreno were distributed to all students at the end of the Walk-a-thon.
As a fundraising incentive, for every $20 that a student raised, his/her name was entered into a drawing for prizes. Prizes included an iPod donated by the PTA, 4 tickets to a Green Bay Gamblers Game donated by KI, a $50 savings bond donated by Cleveland State Bank, five $5 Citgo gift cards donated by the Cleveland Athletic Club, three LTC gift packs donated by Lakeshore Technical College, a movie basket donated by Bonde's, a $5 gift card donated by Family Video, four YMCA Family Passes donated by the Manitowoc YMCA, and six locker magnets.
With past proceeds, the PTA has sponsored the following: lyceum programs, class field trips, the annual school yearbook, student book publishing, author visits, the end of year program and lunch, school dances, student clinics in basketball, soccer, Spanish, pom, volleyball and wrestling, Halloween parties, movie nights, exercise/wellness events, DARE graduation, staff appreciation week, school equipment, birthday books, additional books for library, digital cameras, iPod touches for classrooms, the annual holiday shoppe, vision and hearing screening, classroom gatherings, computer Lab equipment, playground equipment, and memory for computers.
This year the Walk-a-thon raised a total of $2100 to use toward these and other programs that benefit the students.
