A Message from the Principal

Welcome to Cleveland Elementary School!

At Cleveland Elementary School, we are proud that we are able to offer a small, family-oriented atmosphere along with a wide variety of curricular choices thanks to being a part of the Sheboygan Area School District.

The small class sizes at Cleveland allow our students more individual attention, fostering a caring and encouraging learning environment for all. We serve approximately 130 students in grades 4K through 5th grade.

Cleveland Elementary School’s 4-year-old kindergarten is a half-day program that meets four days per week.  We offer developmentally appropriate activities geared toward readiness for both math and reading.  Children are exposed to a wide variety of cooperative play opportunities to strengthen social skills. Children must be 4 years old by September 1st to qualify for the program.

Our 5-year-old kindergarten offers activities geared toward reading, writing, math, science, and social studies readiness. Our reading program emphasizes phonics skills and the teaching of comprehension strategies. There is also a strong emphasis placed on appropriate play and development of social skills.  Our kindergarten students also have the opportunity to enhance their educational program with art, music, and physical education classes taught by specialist in those areas.  Your child must be 5 years old by September 1st to qualify for the program.

In grades 1-5, we offer an excellent education program focusing on the core academic areas and the arts while also providing opportunities for participation in several after school organizations. Students follow the school expectations to be Safe, Respectful and Responsible. Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a systems approach to preventing and responding to classroom and school discipline problems.  PBIS system develops school-wide systems that support staff to teach and promote appropriate behavior in all students.  By reducing behavioral problems, PBIS creates and maintains safe learning environments where teachers can teach and students can learn.

Our PTO provides the opportunity to bring families together through evening Family Activities offered each month. We have a partnership with the Manitowoc YMCA and offer additional physical activities after school.

Your child deserves the very best education possible, and I believe we offer just that at Cleveland Elementary School. If you do not live in the Sheboygan Area School District attendance area, you may enroll in our school through the State Open Enrollment Period in February of each year.  More information about open enrollment is available on our “For Families” link.

Sincerely,

Bill Klein, Phd
