With an emphasis on literacy, math and real-world science, Cleveland students build a strong foundation in the core curriculum. To enhance student learning, specialists in music, art, and physical education work with students weekly. Below are additional programs and activities available at our school.

English Language Learner (ELL) Program
Licensed ELL teachers provide classroom instruction and additional learning support for students who are non-native English speakers to ensure they acquire English proficiency.

PACE Gifted and Talented Program
Cleveland provides a variety of enrichment activities for students who have been identified as gifted and talented. Activities are designed to challenge students and develop their skills in their area of giftedness. PACE is one way our school meets the varying needs of our students.

Band
Beginning band is open to all 5th grade students. We offer instruction on flute, oboe, clarinet, alto sax, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone and combined percussion. Students receive one twenty minute lesson and one thirty minute full rehearsal per week.

Orchestra
The strings program is open to 5th grade students. Students who participate in the strings program attend a weekly, small group lesson that is scheduled before school or during the school day. Instruments available for study are the violin, viola, cello, and string bass.

Above the Influence Club
Cleveland students may choose to participate in our Above the Influence club. Students work on various projects throughout the year to promote healthy lifestyles and encourage their classmates to stay above the influence of drugs and alcohol.
D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education)
Cleveland Elementary is the only school in the Sheboygan Area School District with the DARE education program. The local police department teaches the DARE curriculum to 5th grade students. The program culminated with a graduation at the end of the year.
Garden Club
The group meets twice a month under the direction of a local landscaper that is also a parent. The club has created several garden areas, made garden-themed crafts to sell as a small fundraiser, volunteered to assist a local resident that has cancer with her yard work and made bird feeders for the school grounds…just to name a few activities.
Science Program
Elementastic after school science workshops offer an enrichment program for those interested in science education. The 8 week sessions are held for one hour each week. The enrollment fee includes all required materials and equipment.
Spanish
A wonderful opportunity for Cleveland students...a parent volunteer offers Spanish lessons occasionally after school for students. Check the calendar for dates and times.
Sports Clinics
'How-To' programs that are held in the evenings and run by our local YMCA, Athletic Club and PTA. They usually meet for 4 weeks to teach students the basics in the sport, including basketball, baseball, volleyball, dance, soccer, and wrestling. Open gyms may also be offered throughout the year.
