Cooper 2nd Graders Shake It Up
The second graders in Mrs. Kelly Brotz's class at Cooper Elementary School have been learning about how natural resources are used and changed to be made into the goods that we use every day. Recently, students read how early pioneers churned milk into butter. The students used heavy whipping cream and shook it up in baby food jars to simulate this process. They took turns shaking the jars vigorously and, eventually, turned the liquid cream into a thick and wispy butter. The homemade butter was spread on toasted English Muffins, just like the characters in the story Mr. Putter and Tabby Fly the Plane, which was read in class.
