Grant First Graders Reach Out
Tom Ross, North football player, visits first grade class at Grant.
First grade students from Ann Meseck's class made cards for Sheboygan North High senior football player Tom Ross, who broke his wrist and had to miss several games because of it. Ross is the son of Grant Elementary School's custodian. After receiving the cards, Ross wrote to the first grade class and sent along a picture with the letter.
Ross visited the class on September 30 to personally thank the students. He showed up in his football gear and answered the students' questions. Ross told the students, "It's hard to sit out watching your team and watching others play in your position." When asked if the cards made him feel better, Ross said, "They definitely made me happy -- they brought a big smile to my face." He also reminded the class that school comes first. Ross will find out on Tuesday, October 6, if he will be out for the rest of the season.
At the end of the visit, the class presented him with an autographed football. He gave each student a little bag of chocolate footballs. One of the first graders added, "We like how you told us about the gear. We like the candy. Hopefully your arm will be better."
