Jackson Students Embark On Scientific Research Project

Fifth graders at Jackson Elementary showed off their science fair exhibits at the school Science Fair held March 17 and 18.

All of Jackson's 45 fifth graders participated in the event, which is a class requirement for the students in Joy Perna and Patti Holmes classrooms.

"Students don't just read about science, they become scientists," said Holmes.

Each student used the scientific method to answer a question such as "Which paper airplane flies the farthest?" or "What type of cheese molds the fastest?" Students considered variables, sample size, and controls when writing their procedures. While not all hypotheses were correct, the students learned a lot.

The Science Fair was attended by all Jackson Elementary School students in grades K-4, A2 Charter School students, as well as parents, neighbors and grandparents.
