After reading a story about a veterinarian who works at an animal shelter, Karen Karste's Jackson Elementary School first graders, invited a special visitor to their class. Dr. Carolyn Dell, a veterinarian at Sheboygan Falls Veterinary Service, explained how to keep pets healthy and safe from diseases and pests. She also demonstrated how to clean a dog's teeth and how to tell if a dog is the proper weight.
Dell also demonstrated a pet exam with Paco, the dog she brought with her. The first graders then had the opportunity to listen to their own hearts using a stethoscope. Dell's grandson is a student Karste's class.
