Peace Day Project at Jefferson Elementary School
The 4th and 5th grade class of Mrs. Angela Wagner at Jefferson Elementary School decided to participate in the global Peace One Day project and organized a Peace Walk. The walk started at Jefferson School at 8:30 a.m. on September 21st.  Other classes in the school, staff, and family were invited to be a part of a great showing of peace.  The group, which included 322 students, walked around the surrounding neighborhood carrying signs to spread the word of peace in our community.

Peace One Day is a film project began by a man named Jeremy Gilley.  His idea was to create an annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence: Peace Day.  In 2001 all the countries belonging to the United Nations agreed to adopt September 21st as Peace Day.  It’s up to every individual in the world to use Peace Day to celebrate peace and to build bridges with people from other countries and cultures.  Mr. Gilley’s aim was to reach 3 billion people with the message of Peace Day by September 21, 2012 and to see events and activities in all the participating countries of the United Nations.
