In October the 2nd graders went on a field trip to the John Michael Kohler Arts Center to see the Lakota Sioux Dance Theatre. We celebrated the culture of the Lakota people with an exciting performance of traditional dance, storytelling and music. We went for a tour of the arts center and saw some pretty exciting and interesting pieces of art work. We especially like the Button Suit, the Rhinestone Cowboy's glitter house, and 215 Points of View - made with camera monitors.
In art class we made a self portrait collage in Native American clothing. We decorated our clothing with dyed porcupine quills, feathers, real Indian patterns and symbols. We also made Indian Corn mosaics.
In music class, we learned about the Native American flute, drums and rattles.
