The 4-year-old kindergarten (4K) program was added at Lincoln-Erdman Elementary School in the 2005-06 school year. Our program is modeled after the well-respected Sheboygan Area School District Early Learning Center. Through play and exploration, students are introduced to academic subjects in a safe and child-centered environment.
Students attend school half-days four days per week. There is no school on Wednesdays, which are reserved for special periodical family and home visit activities throughout the school year. Each month, (October – April) parents will complete literacy kit projects at home that are designed to help children with pre-reading skills.
The morning session is from 8:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.
The afternoon session is from 12:45 p.m. – 3:45 p.m.
Bussing is provided for our 4K students living within the Lincoln-Erdman attendance area. Our bus routes help us determine whether students will attend the morning or afternoon session. A L-E staff member accompanies students AM students riding home from school and the PM students riding on the 4K only buses. 4K AM students ride with older students to school and 4K PM students ride with older students home at the end of the day. They are all assigned a bus buddy which is an older student who sits with them. If you have questions about bussing, please contact the school office at (920) 459-3595 or click here to visit our district transportation webpage.
In addition to a certified Early Childhood teacher and an educational assistant, Foster Grandparents and many parent volunteers assist in the classroom providing students with many opportunities for small group work and one-on-one attention.
Students in our 4K program visit the library, learn in our up-to-date computer lab, join in outdoor recess, take field trips and are included in all school activities such as the holiday concert, science fair, talent show, art ala mode, and other enrichment activities.
4K students also participate in special activities such as the in-school Halloween party complete with costumes, an annual Gingerbread House workshop and a 4K graduation program.
To be eligible for 4-year-old kindergarten, students must be four years old on or before September 1 of the current school year.
