James Madison Students Create Art on the Sidewalk
First graders at James Madison Elementary School recently took their art
outdoors. On the sidewalks outside of school, students traced each
other with chalk and then put in the details of their own faces, hair
and clothing. The purpose of the lesson was two-fold. First, the project
helped students realize that there is more to art than drawing “stick
people”. Second, it showed students that art is fun, especially when
making a self-portrait out of sidewalk chalk!
