Wilson Elementary Lines Up Year-Long Events to Celebrate School's 50th Anniversary
In 1958 Wilson Elementary School was inaugurated as part of the Sheboygan Area School District. In recent history the school has been the recipient of the 2005 No Child Left Behind National Blue Ribbon School and the 1990 National School of Excellence award and has been proven as one of the district's strongest elementary schools both academically and in attendance. "The students, the staff and the families have united to put education first and the success is continually awe-inspiring," said Tom Binder, principal of Wilson Elementary School. Binder has been principal of Wilson for 18 of the last 50 years and his greeting of the students at the start of every day as he helps them cross the circle drive has become a mainstay for students and their families. To celebrate the school's 50th anniversary a number of festivities are planned throughout the year including community service activities. The first is a school supply drive which will take place in September. Also in September will be an all-school Wilson Family Brat Fry held September 19, 4:30-7:30 p.m. "We've planned an amazing line-up for this year's brat fry," said Binder. Used as a fundraiser for the school, the brat fry will feature a car show with vehicles from various eras, games from the '50s, a special visit from "Elvis," and the opportunity to purchase Wilson Cookbooks and Memory Bricks. The calendar of events includes: September
