Cleveland and Montessori Elementary School Students Aid in Coastal Beach Sweep
For the fourth consecutive year, students from Cleveland Elementary School and Northeast Wisconsin Montessori Schools gathered together to participating in International Coastal (ICC) Cleanup.
A total of 77 students enjoyed a walk to and from Hika Bay Park in Cleveland to pick up and chart debris collected on the beach.
The ICC beach cleanup program is a worldwide event coordinated every fall by the Ocean Conservancy. Each year over 450,000 people worldwide pick-up over four million pounds of garbage on beaches and rivers.
This year the students picked up and estimated 30 pounds of garbage from their local beach. The ICC has been collecting data from the debris collected on beaches and waterways around the world since 1986. Wisconsin has been participating in the Great Lakes region of ICC since 1989.
