Grant School Neighbor Steps Into the Classroom

A member of the Grant Elementary School community recently took time out of his day to visit Ann Meseck's first grade classroom.

Many kids in the Grant school neighborhood as "Mr. Pumpkin Head" refer to Dave Hoffman. He is known by children in the neighborhood for scaring trick-or-treaters by playing loud music and dressing like a pumpkin head. He stands still and when children get close he spooks them.

Before Halloween, the students, along with Meseck's help, decided to send a letter to Hoffman asking if he could visit and show the students what he looked like under that mask.

Hoffman responded and visited the class, answering all their questions and enjoying the masks the children created for themselves.

This isn't the first time Hoffman has reached out to students in the community.

"When my son was in first grade he wrote a note to Mr. Pumpkin Head," said Meseck. "Many years later, when my son was a freshman, he had a brain tumor and Mr. Pumpkin Head gave it back to him with a personalized note from Mr. Pumpkin Head. We still have it."
