Urban Student's Email Read on National Radio Program

Amanda C., a sixth grader at Urban Middle School, was one of nine students whose opinions on presidential candidates was read on the television program "Assignment: The World."

"Assignment: The World" is a weekly 15-minute news program targeted at fourth through eighth graders, produced by WXXI Public Broadcasting in conjunction with The Associated Press.

Part of her assignment required her to email her opinion to the news program. The segment, which ran prior to the election, included her statement of then-candidate Barack Obama, "He seems to have a strong understanding of what is going on and a solid plan on what to do about it."

The news program received over one thousand responses from students nationwide.
