Cleveland Students Raise Funds for Families in Need

There was a highly charged atmosphere of goodwill and generosity for the Christmas season at Cleveland Elementary and Northeast Wisconsin Montessori School last week.

The students had engaged in Penny Wars to raise money for two families in need. Teachers reported that the enthusiasm and spirit of giving that was shown by all students was incredible.

Each grade was challenged to bring in the most pennies. All silver coins were counted as negative amounts as were dollar bills. Each day the students came in with their bags full of coins and put the pennies in their own classroom's jug, while placing the silver coins and dollar bills in the other classrooms' jugs.

The fourth-graders came out in first place, while the Montessori class and second-graders followed in second and third place respectively.

The two Cleveland community families were the beneficiaries of the $444 collected during the week.
