Sara Loewen's fourth graders at Pigeon River Elementary School collaborated to create an award-winning tree at this year's Festival of Trees in Sheboygan.
The class, consisting of 27 students, worked for an entire day, along with parent volunteers, crafting ornaments of cupcakes, donuts, chocolates, lollipops, gingerbread men and gumdrops. All were used to decorate the tree, called "A Midnight Snack for Santa."
This is the third year Loewen's class has participated in Festival of Trees.
"It's a great chance for students to learn that it's possible to give to the community without donating money - just a little bit of time, effort, and caring," said Loewen.
"A Midnight Snack for Santa" was the recipient of two "Designer's Choice" ribbons - one for the best use of handmade ornaments and the other, second place of all of the 7.5-foot trees.
