Lake Country Academy Staff and Students Lead By Example This Holiday Season

The Lake Country Academy (LCA) Core Virtue of December is compassion. The LCA staff led by example on Monday, December 15th by singing Christmas carols for the Alzheimer residents of Harbor Scenic Concepts. As patients often retain some long ago memories, the gift of song given by the LCA staff reached across the chasm of lost memories to momentarily touch their hearts.

The second and third grade Girl Scouts visited Harmony House to sing carols. LCA teacher, Mrs. Roxanne Peronne, shared her time rehearsing with the scouts to polish up their performance. Their leader, LCA parent, Mrs. Monica Remington, stated: "The girls had a wonderful time bonding with the residents of Harmony House Assisted Living. They helped decorate their cafeteria with Christmas decorations, sang songs and had a snack with residents. At first some of the girls where shy but by the end they didn't want to leave. The girls learned that gifts don't need to be bought and the gift of time can touch the heart of another person."

Under Girl Scout leaders, LCA teachers, Mrs. Melissa Neese and Mrs. Tammy Holtz, our fourth and fifth grade scouts collected food and earned money for Salvation Army before Thanksgiving and this past Thursday went to Sunnyridge to sing for the residents. Some of the Lake Country Academy Boy Scouts will be out ringing the bell for Salvation Army. These acts of compassion lighten the lives of others and brighten our hearts in return.
