grade students at Horace Mann Middle School recently participated in a
National History Day (NHD) competition. NHD is a year-long program that
makes history come alive every day. It is an exciting way to learn
about issues, ideas, people, and events that interest students.
A local competition was held at Horace Mann Middle School on March 10, 2009, in which more than 120 students competed.
theme for this year's competition is "The Individual in History:
Actions & Legacies." The program includes original performances,
documentaries, historical papers and three-dimensional exhibits.
had to defend their projects to a variety of judges, including
community leaders, retired teachers and parents. Winners of the local
competition competed at the regional level in Green Bay on April 4.
moving on to the state competition in Madison May 2 include Stuart S.,
Anna M/ and Kathryn G. A cash award was also presented to Angelica Y.
for her project on child labor.
This curriculum is
highly engaging to students and uses a hands-on approach to learning.
The experiences these students take with them will last a lifetime.
