Jefferson Raises Pennies for Patients

Jefferson Elementary students spent the past few weeks collecting pennies for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. These pennies and spare change help fund blood cancer research and patient programs here in Wisconsin and across the United States.

As an incentive to achieve the school's goal of $500, a pizza party was offered to the winning class in grades Pre K 2 and for grades 3-5.

Jefferson's Head Start Pre-K four-year-old program ran away with the competition raising $77.17. For the intermediate grades, Mrs. Kulhanek's fifth grade class won by raising $66.27.

Jefferson Elementary School's Above the Influence group, which is comprised of fourth and fifth grade students who promote clean and healthy lifestyles, assisted with morning announcements, collecting the money weekly and promotion of the program.

The staff and students hope this donation will help researchers find a cure and eliminate all blood cancers in the near future.
