South Student Journalist Receives Award

The Allen C. Lewis Prize, named for one of the founders of Illinois Institute of Technology, is designed to encourage high school journalism students to think critically and write clearly for the general public about complex topics and issues in technology, science, or business.

Entries featured stories that explore the human, cultural, or social dimensions of a development in technology, science, or business. Prizes were awarded to high school seniors and juniors.

Kelly Boehlke, South High School junior, took 1st place and was the recipient of $300 for her story "Critical Shortage of Safe Drinking Water: Is There a Solution?"

The 2008-09 school year is the inaugural year for the Lewis Prize for High School Journalism on Technology, Science, or Business competition.
