Visitors Come to Learn about Washington School's Literacy Program
Washington School for Comprehensive Literacy hosted some visitors from Denver, Colorado on Thursday and Friday, November 19th and 20th. The visitors included the Literacy Coordinator for 85 elementary schools in the Denver area. The Denver school district plans to implement the Arkansas model into their "Turn Around" school in Denver.
The staff from Denver met with Linda Dorn, national leader for the Arkansas model, this past summer to begin planning for next year and she recommended that they visit the Washington School for Comprehensive Literacy. During their visit the visitors observed and commented on the wonderful collaboration of the Washington professionals, the alignment of classroom instruction, and were greatly impressed by the total engagement of the students. On Friday morning the visitors joined the Washington intervention team for its monthly meeting.
