Jackson and A2 Students Experience Hmong New Year
Amidst the talk of turkey, pilgrims, and Thanksgiving, the jingle of Thai coins and a dazzling display of color filled the halls of Jackson and A2 Elementary School. Through their clothing and quick visits to the classrooms, students took the time to share what Hmong New Year means to them
Fourth and fifth grade students prepared information on the history and purpose of the Hmong New Year. Other students demonstrated the tradition of ball tossing. Parents brought traditional Hmong dishes to share with the teaching staff. It was a day to celebrate the diversity that makes America the unique country it is.
During a holiday when we celebrate America's first immigrants, it seems fitting that we also celebrate and give thanks for our more recent immigrants, the Hmong, who have added so greatly to our country and to the Sheboygan community.
