Local Artists Talk About Art at North High School
Local artist and Lakeland College's associate professor of Art, Denise Presnell-Weidner, will kick off the Sheboygan North High's Art Department Artist Lecture Series for 2010 on Friday, January 29. The Artist Lecture Series is an in-school program that invites local visual artists to share with the beginning, intermediate, and advanced art classes about their journey as artists. Visiting artists present and expose art students to a digital portfolio, actual artworks, and the opportunity to interact with the artists.
Presnell-Weidner writes," As a painter and pastel artist, I have used the Wisconsin landscape near my home in Sheboygan as the source of my work over the past 20 years. As I pass through woods, the banks of rivers or the ditches along roadsides - my focus narrows to the awareness of the tactile texture, the mood of the color and weighty effect of the light on the space. The awareness that all of these elements create a fleeting visual moment adds to the excitement of having experienced it. The result is a kind of abstract solitude that I am attempting to recreate in my paintings and pastels. My work has become an ever-evolving process in search of the best method of arriving once again at that fleeting moment".
