Members of Sheridan Chefs Club Serve Up Foods from Around the World
Chefs Aiden D., Ian Z. and Steven Y., all students at Sheridan Elementary School, have been studying ethnic foods from Thailand, Mexico and the United States for the past quarter. As a culminating activity, each student prepared and presented a dish to their teachers and classmates. Chef Aiden made Sopa de Tortilla (Tortilla Soup), Chef Ian made Fruitcicles from the cookbook Snack Attack and Chef Steven prepared a Thai fruit platter.
The students researched nutrition facts, cultural background and local farming practices for the foods from each of their chosen recipes. The most unusual serving was the lychee fruit on Chef Steven's menu. Comments from the students and staff indicated that everyone enjoyed the Sopa de Tortilla with its corn, tomato and zucchini ingredients. The fruitcicles were served on the warmest day of the week when temperatures were at just above freezing.
