Local Artists Talk About Art at North High School
Local artist, Rita Harmeling, will speak at Sheboygan North High's Art Department Artist Lecture Series on Tuesday, February 23. The Artist Lecture Series is an in school program that invites local visual artists to share with the beginning, intermediate, and advanced art classes about their journey as artists. Visiting artists present and expose art students to a digital portfolio, actual artworks, and the opportunity to interact with the artists.
Harmeling writes, "My journey through the arts started in 6th grade with my first oil painting class and through all these years I have continued painting. Working with stained glass is the other medium I have used for over 30 years, but my degree in art had a metal foundry/ sculpture emphasis! Ceramics, textiles and jewelry making are other processes I've enjoyed. And the thread that seems to run through it all is the use of light and balance. My studio is on Lake Michigan and I use the majestic lighting and colors in the water and sky to inspire my work."
