Washington Fourth Graders Tour City Hall
have an opportunity to sit in the City
Council Chambers when
they took a tour of City Hall.
On primary election day, a group of fourth grade students from Washington School for Comprehensive Literacy visited City Hall and were given a personal tour of the building by Sheboygan Mayor Bob Ryan. The five students who went on the tour comprise a Reading Comprehension Focus Group. Small intervention groups are a key part of the Washington School for Comprehensive Literacy program.
During the students' small group instruction, they have been reading and writing about various occupations. Two of the students recently sent letters to the mayor.
As an extension of the group work, Washington instructor, Nancy Sneller, coordinated a field trip to the Mayor's office. When asked about their field trip, One student said" It was exciting to sit in the chairs where important decisions were made." Another student added, "I learned you must be 18 years old to vote."
The students will be doing further classroom work revolving around the experience they had.
