Urban Students Celebrate Dr. Seuss’s Birthday
On Tuesday, March 2, Urban Middle School students from Team 7-2 and Team 7-3 celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday. A special guest, Tom Weber, a retired Urban Middle School teacher, took time out of his day to present three stories to classes. Weber had the volunteer parents and the students smiling and laughing as they made personal connections to the stories. Ben J, a seventh grader at Urban, joined his father to present a chapter from A Teacher's Funeral by Richard Peck. The audience was in stitches during the presentation.
Parents served green eggs and ham, along with donut holes. Many of the students invited their parents to join them for the class hour to share in their experiences. Some of the other activities students were involved in included sequencing, reminiscing, listening to others read, watching and discussing short Dr. Suess videos. Students had the opportunity to bring in books to share.
