Wilson Readers Get Buddies to Share Their Books
Wilson Elementary School second graders who are in Nancy Van Treeck's classroom are the recipients of a new reading program sponsored by the Foster Grandparent & Seniors in School Programs. The program, which is called the "Reading Buddy" program, is made possible through a generous donation by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
Grandma Redna, a foster grandparent, organized the project at Wilson School. The "Reading Buddy Program" encourages and supports reading at home for enjoyment. Each student receives a stuffed animal along with a new book of his/her choice for four weeks. Grandma Redna spends time each week reading with the students. At the end of the project, students are allowed to take their reading buddy and new books home to keep and are encouraged to continue reading.
