Cleveland DARE Graduation
The fifth graders at Cleveland Elementary School had their DARE culmination on June 4, 2010. The ten-week program, which was taught by Officer James Schuessler of the Cleveland Police Department, is designed to help students build drug and violence refusal skills. Each year the Cleveland Police Department and Cleveland Lions Club sponsor the program. The lessons focus on the development of self-esteem, interpersonal and communication skills, risk assessment, decision-making skills, critical thinking, conflict resolution, violence resistance skills and positive alternatives to substance and drug abuse.
Prior to the graduation ceremony, each student wrote an essay about taking the DARE class and made a pledge to make wise decision. Parents and family members were invited to the function.
