Cleveland-Montessori Students Join Walk to School

Cleveland Elementary and the NEW Montessori schools recently joined millions of children, parents, teachers and community leaders around the globe in walking to school to celebrate International Walk to School Day.

Over 90% of the students at Cleveland Elementary and NEW Montessori Schools walked or biked to school, many accompanied by their families, and met staff members at various spots in the Village to walk to school together.

To add to the excitement of the day, staff and students cheered on other students as they arrived.

Upon arrival at school, the students were treated to a breakfast of apples and apple cider, donated by Whispering Orchards, and bagels and muffins donated by Cleveland and NEW Montessori parents.

Childhood obesity is becoming a national epidemic. Over the past 30 years, the percentage of overweight 6-11 year-olds has more than doubled. "Walk Your Child to School Day" events promote and foster awareness on both the importance of regular physical activity, pedestrian safety and sound nutrition.
