ESAA Students Study Impressionism

The first and second graders in Elizabeth Marzouki's class at the Elementary School of the Arts and Academics (ESAA) have been learning about Impressionism, with a focus on the artist Claude Monet. The students have studied the music and visual art of the period through explorations in drama, movement, music, and visual art.

Lead by visual art teacher, Michele Konrad, the students studied the work, watercolor techniques and life of Monet. To extend their learning, the students painted in impressionist style at easels on the shores of Lake Michigan.

During team time, Courtney Harding, ESAA drama teacher, and Ms. Marzouki guided the students through thinking routines as they wrote descriptive essays from various perspectives, using Monet's garden as the setting.

Rayna Rokicki, ESAA movement teacher and ESAA music teacher Jan Anderson lead students in an exploration of impression music.
