Cooper Students Learn About Indonesia
Cooper Elementary School 5th graders who are in Christine Ahrens' classroom enjoyed learning about Indonesia from Khalid Ardhi Nurrahman, who is an exchange student currently enrolled at Sheboygan North High School. Nurrahman shared a power point presentation about the culture, population, geography and religions of the Indonesian Islands.
The fifth graders asked questions about Nurrahman's life, his family and his life growing up in Indonesia. The most surprising information learned was that Indonesian students have school Monday through Saturday from 6:45 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and that they wear uniforms to school. The students also learned that Indonesian students begin learning several different languages in fourth grade. Nurrahman emphasized how important education is valued in their culture and explained that a class of thirty classmates stays together as a class for their entire school life.
