Sheridan Elementary School's Student Council held its third annual food drive for people in need during the week of November 10 through November 14. Each day of the week a particular food group was assigned. On Monday students and staff brought canned fruit, Tuesday close to 100 cereal boxes were brought, Wednesday everyone brought canned vegetables, Thursday was soup day, and finally on Friday everyone brought food items of their choice.
To promote the food drive, Student Council members made signs to hang in the school, letters were written to parents, emails were sent to the staff, announcements were made daily to all staff and students, and cheers were developed. For the third year in a row, more than 1000 items were donated during the week.
This year Walmart and Target helped out by donating laundry baskets. Student Council members filled the baskets and they were given to families in need. Lakeland College held a food drive of its own and donated some of the items to Sheridan School so the Student Council was able to provide over twelve families with food for the holiday season.
Sheridan's Student Council was most impressed with the generosity of the students, staff, and the community for their continued support.
