Lake Country Academy Students Write to Soldiers
Lake Country Academy (LCA) students practiced their November core virtue of gratitude when they wrote 230 thank you letters and sent Thanksgiving pictures to veterans who serve in our military. Karen Degner, the 'Military Families Connect Coordinator' of The Family Resource Center of Sheboygan County, helped to tie gratitude and patriotism together when she brought U.S. Army issued gear to help students get an idea of how heavy the load is that our soldiers carry with samples of field gear, fatigues and Meals Ready to Eat (MRE). Some of the students stated that they were very thankful that they did not have to eat that way.
All of the Lake Country Academy students in grades Pre-K through 8th grade wrote letters. Additionally, Kindergarten, second and fifth graders also sent personal thanks to the LCA parents who are currently serving. Commander Shane Sipiorski and Staff Sergeant Michael Miehlan are parents of LCA students. All of the LCA art classes also drew pictures to send to Michael Miehlan, their active duty Art Teacher.
The students put on a skit about being thankful, when the pink-haired Gratitude Fairy reminds a family to "Always be Thankful" during her visit to their feast. Teachers and students took part in the skit.
