Cooper First Graders Get 'Descriptive'
The first graders in
Nancy Opitz's classroom at Cooper Elementary School recently discovered
the effect good descriptive writing can have on readers when they
applied their newly learned writing skills. Each student wrote a
descriptive paragraph about an unusual creature and then drew a picture
of the creature that matched the artistic characteristics listed in the
paragraph. The students then read their paragraphs to older students
visiting their classroom who were then asked to match key descriptive
qualities in the paragraphs to those in the drawings.
