Three students from Sheboygan North and South High Schools won the first place gold medals at the Wisconsin Skills USA Leadership and Skills Conference, which was held recently at Chula Vista in Wisconsin Dells. The gold medal winners will now compete at the Nationals that will take place in Kansas City from June 20-24.
National Qualifiers from South High School are Austin Jaeger (Sheet Metal) and Nicole Galang (Prepared Speech) categories. The National Qualifier from North High School is Kyle Mares (Culinary Arts).
Other students from South High School who earned awards or medals were Jeryka Burkart, Jessica Hammarlund, Sam Hocevar, and Megan Gavin - Professional Development Program (PDP) Awards; John Lange - Bronze Medal in Marine Service Technology and Name Withheld - Silver Medal in First Aid & CPR.
The South High Skills USA Chapter was also awarded $200 in gift cards to Lowe's in recognition of having the most registered members in the entire state. The students attending the state conference were also treated to a pizza party as part of the award. This year South had 42 students registered as members of Skills USA.
Austin Jaeger,1st place finisher in the sheet metal category has participated in Skills USA for 3 years and served as a state officer during last school year.
Advisors for the Skills USA students are Josef Janicek - South High School and John Juckem and Karen Sullivan - North High School.
