The Power of Solar Energy
It took an Indian summer day to complete a science project in Pam Braatz’s 4th grade class in Jefferson Elementary School. The students were learning about solar water heaters. Using four different containers – covered, uncovered, white-lined and black-lined - students took the temperature of water every five minutes for 20 minutes. Using the data collected, students were able to show that dark colors absorb heat better than light colors and that a closed container collects and hold heat better.
