At the January 10, 2012 Committee of the Whole meeting the Board of Education heard a proposal for new charter school to open for the 2012-2013 school year. The Board reconvened to open session after an executive session to approve the charter school moving forward, contingent on the school raising the additional funds required to run the school. The school will operate as a non-instrumentality charter school and will receive the state funding allotted per pupil enrolled. Sheboygan Leadership Academy will not receive any additional district funds. The SASD will receive additional state funding per pupil as these are projected to be new students not currently enrolled in our schools. The new charter school is not taking away district funds from other district schools or programs.
The Sheboygan Area School District is continually looking for ways to expand services to our students. We pride ourselves on offering a wide array of educational opportunities to meet the needs of students in our district while at the same time, being fiscally responsible to our taxpayers. This charter school will meet these goals as well as provide the District an opportunity to bring new students to the District.

The Sheboygan Leadership Academy will serve students in 4K – 8th grade with a focus on virtue/service education and a commitment to high academic standards.
