photoNorth High School students choreographed and performed a “Dance of the Ho Chi Minh Trail,” with their own musical accompaniment, to express a cultural understanding of the Vietnam War.  Students in African Asian World classes have been reading primary and secondary source accounts of the Vietnam War from multi-cultural perspectives. Included in those readings was an article on the Ho Chi Minh Trail, which allowed students to see how the trail was viewed during the War, and how it is re-envisioned today. Using the reading as inspiration, students then created fictional characters who wrote “letters home” from the Trail.  From these letters, small groups worked together to create story lines, which were then turned into dance.

photoWith the appearance of Comet PAN-STARRS in the western skies, the students at Northeast Wisconsin Montessori School at Cleveland Elementary welcomed a very special guest speaker on Friday, March 15th.  Parent and life-long student of Astronomy, Scott Blair, shared his expertise with the mixed-age class of 1st through 6th graders.  He explained how comets are formed and even made one for the class out of dirt, dry ice, ammonia, water and corn syrup, so the children could observe how a comet behaves in space and forms it's characteristic tail as it approaches the sun. This fun lesson was enhanced by Mr. Blair giving the children research ideas and tools to explore more of our solar system and the universe beyond, so they will be experts by time Comet ISON appears in November 2013.
