North High School Hosts 1st Annual Art Teacher Idea Exchange
On Saturday January 14, 2012, ten area art teachers participated in the first annual Art Teacher Idea Exchange at Sheboygan North High School hosted by the Wisconsin Art Education Association (WAEA) and local WAEA members.
The Idea Exchange provided a wonderful opportunity for art teachers to get together and exchange ideas, lesson plans and instructional thoughts. Participants were asked to bring one lesson plan plus visual samples. Teachers were also asked to bring one “teacher tip” to share. The event provided a forum for collaboration with teachers from different grade levels and district to share ideas and different approaches to art instruction.
Carol Rokicki, Art Teacher at Sheboygan North and South High Schools and Brian Sommersberger from Random Lake Elementary School worked with Lee Amborn of Black River Falls Middle School to organize the event, which was open to K-12 art educators in the North East Region including local colleges and private schools. The idea for the event was inspired by Amborn who been holding an annual Art Teacher’s Idea Exchange in his district for the last 28 years.
The 2nd Annual Art Teacher Annual Idea Exchange is already being planned for next year. Brian Sommersberger is currently serving as WAEA’s North East Regional Vice-President. Carol Rokicki is currently serving as WAEA’s Secondary Representative.
Diana Kirschbaum from Howards Grove Elementary displays student artwork at the first annual Art Teacher Idea Exchange held at North High School.
