Urban Student Council Organizes Very Successful Food Drive
The Urban Middle School Student Council just completed an all-school food drive to benefit local food pantries. The students collected a record 3,616 food items. The students doubled what was collected last year, which is excellent given the heightened need in our community. Students organized a Food Drive contest between the plus periods of each grade. The groups who collected the most in each grade level were awarded prizes by the student council.
Student Council Advisors Todd Dekker and Mary Starnitcky agreed, “We are very proud of what our council does not only for our school but the community as well. It was really a joy to watch the students get so involved trying to help those who are in need.”
Urban Middle School has a very active Student Council, made up of 180 students from all grade levels. The council takes on a variety of service projects throughout the school year. The food drive was their fall project with the theme of helping others who are not so fortunate.
