Larger Than Life Art at Lake Country Academy
If you walk through the halls of Lake Country Academy (LCA) this month, you may think you are in “Wonderland.” Actually, you will be in the middle of an annual LCA tradition where the 8th grade Art class displays artwork created while studying Pop Art. Pop Art is an art movement that emerged in the late 1950s in the United States that includes imagery and objects from popular culture. As a part of the Core Knowledge Curriculum, students learn about the art movement and artists Warhol, Lichtenstein, and Oldenburg. The eighth grade also learns about scale and dimension, as well as the obvious difficulty in creating an object “larger than life.”
