Snuggle Up with your Reading Buddy and Read a Good Book
Grandma Renda, a Foster Grandparent volunteer, reads to second graders at Wilson School during her weekly visits. Students share the experience with their stuffed animal "reading buddy." The Reading Buddy Program is meant to encourage and support the enjoyment of reading at home and it centers around reading to a stuffed animal or "Buddy."
The program, sponsored by the Foster Grandparent/Seniors in Education program is made possible by a generous donation from Thrivent Financial For Lutherans and the Wilson School PTA.
Each student received a stuffed animal along with a certificate to "name his or her buddy." Children also get to pick a book each week during the three to four week project. At a later date the children take their buddies and books home where they are encouraged to read daily to their buddy.
