Wilson Recognized Volunteer as 'Special Friend' of School
Principal Chad Renzelmann presented the "Special Friend of Wilson School” Award to Mr. Jim Johnson on Monday October 1, 2012 during the regular PBIS assembly. PBIS, or Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, acknowledges, celebrates, and rewards students for positive choices.
Grandpa Jim, as he is known to the students, works with kindergarteners at Wilson Elementary School as part of the Seniors In School/Foster Grandparent program. Jim began volunteering with the program seven years ago after retiring from the Kohler Company. He says he has enjoyed getting to know the staff, but most importantly, he enjoys working with the students.
The Special Friend of Wilson School Award recognizes volunteers who practice the schools' motto of 4 > 2 (for is greater than to). The idea of doing something for someone or yourself instead of to them is an important part of the PBIS program. Volunteering is wonderful illustration of that concept.
