Horace Mann Recognized for Fundraising Efforts for Juvenile Diabetes
Horace Mann Middle School students were awarded the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) traveling trophy for their participation in the annual Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes educational school fundraising program. Erin Hennessy and Sandy Lange from JDRF thanked Horace Mann students for their fundraising efforts this fall and presented them with the JDRF’s Silver Star banner. Horace Mann students raised almost $1900 to help find a cure for Type I diabetes after learning about the disease in their physical education classes. Local JDRF representatives visited the physical education classes to discuss issues and obstacles that children experience when diagnosed with Type I diabetes and the importance of making healthy choices.
The traveling trophy was presented at a recent all-school assembly. The top three individual fundraisers, Mario M., Jacob B., and Cole B., were also recognized at the assembly.
