Wilson Students Recognize White Cane Day in October
Students at Wilson Elementary School recently learned about and celebrated White Cane Day. During a school assembly legally blind kindergarten student Mayah McWherter, along with her full time teacher assistant Courtney Roland and Diane Gafney, Orientation and Mobility Specialist with CESA, discussed with students the purpose and importance of Mayah’s cane in providing safety and independence. With her cane, Mayah can navigate around the school and playground without assistance. The students learned about the White Cane Law in Wisconsin and the importance of obeying it.
