The Sheboygan Area School District (SASD) is proud to announce that the Sheboygan Leadership Academy will open as a new district charter school in September 2012. The Sheboygan Leadership Academy will serve students in 4K – 8th grade with a focus on virtue/service education and a commitment to high academic standards.
The Sheboygan Leadership Academy met financial obligations required by April 30 to ensure that the charter school incurs no extra expenses for the Sheboygan Area School District. Operating as a non-instrumentality of the Board of Education, the school will receive the per-pupil allocation from the State of Wisconsin for each enrolled student.
It was important to the Sheboygan Leadership Academy founders and the Board of Education that no funds will be diverted from other SASD schools or programs in creating this new charter. The school applied for an implementation grant from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction earlier in April and has raised the start-up funds needed to operate the school.
“The Sheboygan Area School District is pleased to have another quality public education option for families in our area. We are very impressed with the dedication and commitment to excellence we have seen in Sheboygan Leadership Academy,” said Dr. Joseph Sheehan, Superintendent of the Sheboygan Area School District.
“We are excited about partnering with the SASD, families and area businesses to create a culture of social responsibility, integrity and leadership right here in our community,” said Denise Quasius, President of the Sheboygan Leadership Academy Governing Board.
