Statement from the Sheboygan Area School District - 10/1/2012

The Sheboygan North High School Homecoming Dance was held on Saturday, September 29, from 7:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Due to inappropriate dancing and disrespectful behavior, the dance was briefly interrupted and student were given a reminder about how the school defines appropriate behavior at a school function.

The Principal reiterated a great week of homecoming activities and he addressed some students in attendance at the dance who were not following expectations for appropriate behavior at a school function. The principal commented that if inappropriate behavior continued, there would be actions taken including the lights being turned on and the possibility that the dance would be cancelled. Thankfully, the students cooperated for the remainer of the evening, the dance was resumed and school administration and chaperones continued to monitor behaviour throughout the night and the dance enended at 11:00 p.m. as scheduled.

It is common practice to ensure a safe departure of students by having police patrol the area when there are large student events taking place.  The police were notified of the potential early departure of students as a precaution.

North High School made its students and their parents aware of the expectations for the dance through a handout students recieved when tickets were purchased and information was available on  the school website and in North's newsletter.
